Brittany serves as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. She recently completed a deployment wherein she spent five months as the Director of Operations for Operation Allies Welcome at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL), which was one of eight Department of Defense safe havens erected to facilitate the resettlement of 74,000 Afghan refugees. Brittany directed operations conducted by over 400 military personnel from all service branches to provide safety, food, shelter and essentials to over 19,000 Afghans housed at JBMDL. Previously she served as a Department of State Foreign Service Officer at U.S. Embassies in both Haiti and Brunei. Brittany is a 2006 Mitchell Scholar. She received a Master's Degree in International Security and Conflict Studies from Dublin City University. Her thesis research examined how the will of the support base influences the migration of terrorist groups into the legitimate political arena and compared the IRA and Sinn Fein in Northern Ireland with Hamas in the Palestinian Territories. While studying in Ireland, Brittany interned at the US Embassy. Studying conflict with a community of scholars from many different countries gave her deep insight into how international security issues were perceived around the world, experience that was of great value when she worked at NATO Military Headquarters in Belgium. Brittany obtained her undergraduate degree from UC Irvine.
