Karly is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Her clinical research focuses on delivery of primary care services and care coordination for populations with mental illness. Karly completed her Internal Medicine training at Johns Hopkins Hospital and was a part of the Urban Health primary care leadership track. She then completed a fellowship in General Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an MHS in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Karly is a 2007 Mitchell Scholar. She received a Master's Degree in Biomedical Science from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Her thesis research focused on gene therapy and was conducted at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering in Galway. The content of the course at NUIG exposed her not only to the most up-to-date scholarship in the field but also to the business and industrial side of science. She spent weekends working as a science tutor at the Center for Talented Youth. Medicine perfectly combines Karly’s passion for science with her passion for community service and patient care. Long-term she hopes to work at an academic hospital engaging in both clinical practice and research. Karly obtained her undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in Ohio and her medical degree from Harvard.
