Brendan is a Senior Health Specialist with the World Bank in Kampala, Uganda. Prior to that he worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC. and before that, he was the Director of Channel Development at Marie Stopes International and is based in London. Brendan spent several years Nairobi, Kenya, where he worked to establish a platform for government and commercial healthcare systems to work with small accredited private providers offering family planning and reproductive health services in slums or peri-urban areas. By franchising services with small clinic owners, Brendan and his colleagues supplied training, accreditation, access to commodities and equipment as well as marketing services in order to improve family planning services. Brendan is a 2008 Mitchell Scholar. He received a Master's Degree in Development Studies from University College Dublin. He had long been interested in development from a healthcare perspective. While studying in Ireland, Brendan was exposed to the social enterprise community and became interested in how social entrepreneurship might help achieve development goals. Brendan is very passionate about the role of family planning in reducing maternal mortality and as part of a preventative healthcare strategy. Brendan obtained his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University.
