Lara Janson is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at Grinnell College. She completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Chicago in 2020 and was named a 2018-2019 Chicago Center for Teaching Fellow, as well as a 2018-2019 University of Chicago Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality Residential Fellow. Lara researches the competing legal jurisdictions (criminal, civil, and quasi-legal campus committee) involved in how campus sexual assaults are adjudicated following the Obama administration's "Dear Colleague" letter applying Title IX to campus assaults. She has also researched human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Research Lara conducted on behalf of the Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation suggests that one of the keys to ending sexual exploitation and trafficking is holding the purchaser of sex accountable rather than prostituted people. Lara is a 2009 Mitchell Scholar. She received a Master's Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ulster. Lara obtained her undergraduate degree from Grinnell College.
