Alec is the General Counsel, in the Office of the Chief Housing Officer of New York City. Prior to that he was the Deputy State Solicitor in the New Jersey Attorney General's Office and before that, he was on the appellate group for O'Melveny & Myers in NYC. Alec was a Clerk for Justice Stephen Breyer on the US Supreme Court. A graduate of Stanford Law School, he was a member of Orrick's Supreme Court and Appellate practice where he was part of the legal team representing Microsoft at the United States Supreme Court in the case concerning the US Government's attempt to get access to private email correspondence stored on a Microsoft server in Dublin, Ireland. Before that, Alec was a Law Clerk with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. A 2010 Mitchell Scholar, he received an MSc. in International Relations from University College Dublin.  His thesis research examined corporate tax competition in Europe and looked at how states changed their corporate tax rates in reaction to removal of barriers to trade and the movement of capital.  During his scholarship year, Alec travelled extensively around Ireland and Europe.  He formed a deep cultural connection to Ireland through exploring his ancestral links to the country. Before attending Stanford, Alec worked as the Borough President's liaison to Lower Manhattan and he hopes to continue to be involved in politics and public life.  As an undergraduate at Grinnell College, Alec was president of the College and Young Democrats of Iowa and was subsequently elected Vice-President of the College Democrats of America.
