Mona is a Fellow at the University of Rochester Medical Center's Flaum Eye Institute. Before that, she was Resident Physician in Ophthalmology at Penn State Hershey Medical Center after obtaining her Medical degree from the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

As a Mitchell Scholar, Mona studied Equality Studies at University College Dublin.

Mona obtained her undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania.
